Da Vinci 5® Surgical System

Saint Agnes introduced robotic surgery to the Central Valley in 2001 and is proud to be the first area hospital to offer the next generation of robotic-assisted surgery to Valley patients: the Intuitive da Vinci 5® surgical system.
With the addition of the da Vinci 5®, patients have access to the most advanced robotic-assisted surgical technology and a built-in multidisciplinary robotics program that delivers better outcomes. The da Vinci 5® provides our surgeons with the precision, dexterity and control of traditional surgery while only making a few tiny incisions. This means less trauma, less blood loss and faster recovery.
With this state-of-the-art technology, patients no longer have to endure weeks of post-op discomfort, a lengthy recovery period and a large scar as a permanent reminder. Patients can get back to their normal routines and what matters most.
The benefits of robotic surgery
Less Invasive
Smaller entry points into the body, which reduces post-operative pain.
Less Pain
Less discomfort following surgery due to minimal damage to the surrounding tissue.
Less Risk of Complications
Greater precision decreases blood loss and lowers the risk of infection and complications.
Less Time Recovering
Smaller incisions mean shorter hospital stays, quicker healing and getting back to what you love sooner.
More Clarity
Magnified 3D imaging help surgeons see more of what they need to see.
More Precision
Improved accuracy means improved outcomes.
Meet da Vinci 5®
Developed by Intuitive, the da Vinci 5® is the latest, most advanced robotic surgical system designed to transform surgery for better outcomes, efficiency and insights. The da Vinci 5® brings enhancements that elevate the surgeon's vision and ability to feel tension on tissue—helping to reduce tissue trauma for patients. And with more than 10,000 times the computing power than the previous model, the da Vinci 5® delivers even more valuable insights to help us understand surgical performance like never before.
The da Vinci 5® robot consists of three components:
- The Vision Cart. The vision cart communicates between the system's components and provides visuals for the rest of your care team.
- The Surgeon Console. Your surgeon is with you in the operating room, seated at the da Vinci system console. The console gives your surgeon control of instruments they use to perform your surgery.
- The Patient Cart. This holds the camera and surgical instruments and is positioned alongside the patient's bed.

How the da Vinci 5® works
Your surgeon is with you in the operating room, seated at the da Vinci system console. The console gives your surgeon control of instruments used to perform your surgery.
The da Vinci vision system delivers 3D high-definition views, giving your surgeon a crystal-clear view of the surgical area that is magnified 10 times to what the human eye sees.
Your surgeon uses tiny instruments that move like a human hand but with greater range of motion. The system's built-in tremor-filtration technology helps your surgeon move each instrument with precision.
