Bring a Vision of Healing to Life

Saint Agnes Community Health and Well-Being is inviting local artists to submit original mural designs for a large outdoor wall that will compliment a new community garden at our Holy Cross Health & Wellness Center in downtown Fresno. This community-inspired mural will reflect the spirit of healing, transformation, and compassion—values that are at the heart of our mission.
Transformation: Healing Hands, Renewed Spirits
Our hope is that the mural will be a vibrant visual expression of our core values and all that we stand for—to be a healing and transformative presence for all those who need care. Through this project, we will create a lasting symbol of hope and renewal for the people we serve—especially those who rely on the Holy Cross Health & Wellness Center for essential care and support.
Mural project timeline
All interested artists must submit their designs below no later than Friday, May 9, 2025. Our team will review all submissions and will contact the selected artist(s) with additional information about production timeline.
Who can submit artwork
We welcome submission from local artists, ages 18 years or older. Artists must be:
- Passionate about the Central Valley, their community and health care;
- Able to sketch or outline their design on-site prior to painting;
- Willing to direct a team of Saint Agnes colleague volunteers who will assist in bringing the mural to life
What to submit
All submissions should align with the mural's theme: Transformation: Healing Hands, Renewed Spirits.
Interested artists must upload a PDF (preferred), JPG or PNG of their proposed design to the form at the bottom of this page. Sketches and renderings will be accepted but please be as detailed as possible in visually communicating your "vision." Please note any additional detail or information you think we should know about your design to help with consideration.
Mural guidelines and wall specifications
To help our artists plan and design effectively, please review the details and requirements for the mural space:
Wall Dimensions
Mural wall is approximately 97' wide x 6' high.
Due to the size of the wall, our team may select multiple designs (3-4) and divide the wall into mural sections.
Wall Orientation
The mural wall faces south with approximately 1/3 of the left side partially shaded in the afternoon; the remaining parts of the wall are full exposed to sun and weather. Please refer to images of the wall, below.
Wall Surface
The mural wall is made up of standard concrete blocks. While most of the wall surface is smooth, some bricks may naturally have grout or texture on them. Please refer to the image below for more.
Design Style
This mural is intended to be viewed from far away so we ask that artists create their designs using bold lines and high contrast to ensure visibility and impact on the wall. If possible, avoid intricate details that may be difficult to replicate on bricks.
Design Medium
Murals must be paint-based and appropriate for outdoor brick. Chalk and vinyl wraps will not be accepted. Designs may incorporate spray paint as accents for parts of the mural; designs using spray paint exclusively will not be accepted.
Painting Support
We will collaborate with selected artist(s) to assist in providing weather-resistant, exterior-grade paint. Please note any specific color requirements you may need when submitting your design. Our colleagues will assist you in painting the mural(s) once selected.

No! Saint Agnes colleague volunteers will assist with most of the painting. However, the selected artist(s) must be present to sketch or outline the design on the wall and help guide volunteers during painting.
While we would prefer the selected artist be part of the painting process, at minimum, we ask that the selected artist come to the Holy Cross Health & Wellness Center to sketch an outline of their design on the wall so Saint Agnes colleagues can paint on their own.
There is no monetary prize, but the selected artist(s) will have their design(s) featured across the wall for all those at the Holy Cross Health & Wellness Center to admire. You'll also be able to sign your name on the wall, once completed, and will be given credit and recognition in any outreach.
YES! We know the proposed wall is very wide and may be difficult for one person to design one cohesive mural within the specifications. As such, depending on the number and quality of submissions, we may select 3-4 mural designs to divide across the wall's sections.
Our team will reach out to work with the selected artists to tailor the design to needed specifications, as appropriate.
Absolutely. You're welcome to submit multiple concepts. Please upload each design as a separate entry using the form below.
A committee made up of members from our Community Health and Well-Being team, as well as Saint Agnes Senior Leadership, will review submissions and select the design(s) that best represent the mural's theme and our hospital's mission.
