Saint Agnes becomes first in the Valley to utilize da Vinci 5 surgical system
March 5, 2025Fresno, CA—Saint Agnes is pleased to announce the arrival of our new Intuitive da Vinci 5® surgical system, becoming the first hospital in the Central Valley to acquire the innovative surgical system.
The da Vinci 5® is the most advanced surgical robot in the da Vinci line of surgical systems, designed to transform the surgical process in the operating room to enable better outcomes, improve efficiency and provide surgeons with pin-point accuracy and actionable feedback every moment of surgery.
“Saint Agnes introduced robotic surgery to the Central Valley in 2001, and once again leads the way in robotic technology with the addition of the da Vinci 5®,” says Dr. Gurvinder Kaur, Saint Agnes President and Market Leader. “Saint Agnes is committed to investing in the most advanced robotic-assisted surgical technology and our multidisciplinary robotic program to ensure our patients receive the highly specialized, precise, effective and personalized care they need.”
Da Vinci 5® is the newest entry to the da Vinci® portfolio of systems and can be used for minimally invasive surgical procedures for urological, gynecological, colorectal, cardiothoracic, bariatric and general surgeries. The da Vinci 5® expands the world of robotic surgery capabilities thanks to features like wristed instruments, 3DHD visualization, intuitive motion and an ergonomic design. Key enhancements include:
- First-of-its-kind Force Feedback technology, which can reduce the amount of force exerted on tissue in the surgical site
- Optimized vision with truer colors, higher image resolution and the most realistic da Vinci® 3D image
- More than 10,000 times the computing power of previous model, da Vinci Xi®, to deliver actionable insights throughout the procedure
- Better ergonomics for greater surgeon comfort and surgical viewing
Da Vinci 5® is 100 percent operated by surgeons. The system helps to translate the hand movements of the surgeon into the movements of the robot’s four arms. By attaching specialized instruments to the arms, surgeons are able to make extremely small movements with the utmost precision to ensure an accurate and effective surgical result. Plus, since the robot only needs a few small incisions to complete surgery, patients experience less pain, less blood loss, lower risk of infection, shorter hospital stays, less scarring and faster recovery times than with traditional surgical methods.
“With the addition of the da Vinci 5® to our program, our surgeons will be able to provide surgical solutions for more complex and intricate cases. This technology allows us to expand our scope of care and provides Valley patients the most advanced, expert care right here at home,” Dr. Kaur says.
