Hyperbaric Medicine
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a simple, noninvasive and painless way of delivering high doses of oxygen to the body. Patients breathe 100 percent pure oxygen while inside a pressurized chamber. The pressure inside the chamber causes the oxygen to be dissolved into the blood and spread into the tissues and fluids of the body. Patients who are treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy have shown an increased growth of blood vessels, reduced swelling and increased oxygen flow to surrounding tissue.
Conditions treated by HBOT include:
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Late effects of radiation (bone or soft tissue)
- Chronic refractory osteomyelitis (chronic bone infection)
- Compromised skin grafts or flaps, or preparation of a previously failed graft or flap
- Central retinal artery occlusion
- Other conditions that may benefit from increased blood oxygen levels
Amputation Prevention
Diabetic foot ulcers, infections and traumatic injuries often result in unnecessary amputations. At Saint Agnes Wound Care, our ultimate goal is preventing amputation. Our team of specially-trained surgeons and staff work with patients to heal lower extremity wounds and preserve limb function. Patients referred for treatment will undergo an extensive evaluation with diagnostic tests followed by implementation of an aggressive treatment plan. This plan will be coordinated with and communicated to the patient’s primary care physician.
Ostomy Care
Our Certified Ostomy nurses provide specialized education to patients and their families, focusing on treatment, management and support for individuals with colostomies, ileostomies or other related conditions. They take the time to explain how to manage leakage, deal with skin problems and change the ostomy appliance.
Patient care services are provided by physician referral only.
