Language Assistance

Woman's hands using tablet

To help you and your family work with our doctors, nurses and staff to get the most from your hospital stay, we provide these language assistance resources dedicated to seeing you through your journey.

Interpreters

For limited- and non-English speaking patients

With patient approval, family members or our Medical Center colleagues can provide interpretation for common communication. However, the use of a medically certified interpreter is required at key times during the care process to ensure that the patient understands the information presented, both written and oral.

Saint Agnes patients can have the option to not only hear but also see their interpreter through a web-based application called Language UC. The app, accessed via hospital iPads, provides audio and video interpreter services for different spoken languages in addition to American Sign Language interpreters. These services will be provided at no charge to the patient. Please ask your nurse for any communication assistance you may need during your stay at Saint Agnes.

Communication Aids

The teletype device, TDD, is available free of charge for hearing-impaired patients. Your nurse can arrange for this device upon your request. The direct TDD line to the hospital is (559) 450-3233. Audio and video interpretation services, including American Sign Language, also are available by asking your nurse.
