Robotic Urologic Surgery
When medication and other non-surgical treatments are unavailable or cannot relieve symptoms, surgery is the recommended treatment for many conditions that affect the male reproductive organs and urinary tract organs.
These conditions include, among other things, prostate cancer, ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction, bladder and kidney cancer and vesicoureteral reflux.
With da Vinci® Robotic Surgical technology, urologic surgeons are now able to perform complex procedures, including Partial or Radical Nephrectomy (surgery for kidney), Pyeloplasty (surgery to treat urinary obstruction) and Radical (surgery of the prostate), using a minimally invasive approach.
In contrast to traditional radical prostatectomy, which requires an 8 to10-inch incision, the da Vinci® only requires small 1-2 cm incisions. For most patients, da Vinci® Prostatectomy offers numerous potential benefits over open prostatectomy including:
- Shorter hospital stay
- Significant less pain
- Less blood loss and transfusion
- Less scarring
- Quicker return to normal activities
Recent clinical studies suggest that da Vinci® Prostatectomy may offer improved cancer control and speed recovery of urinary continence and sexual function.
