Am I a Candidate?
Every patient's health is unique—and every health plan is created on an individual basis. In most cases, the traditional guideline that determines a person's eligibility for bariatric surgery is based on your Body Mass Index (BMI). You may be a candidate for surgery if your BMI is greater than or equal to 35 and you're living any other co-morbidity, including:
- Diabetes
- Fatty liver disease
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Infertility
- Sleep apnea
If your BMI is greater than or equal to 40, you may be considered a candidate for surgery, regardless of any other medical condition. It's important to discuss your medical history and current health conditions thoroughly with our providers so they can create a customized plan that is best for your case.
BMI Calculator
Your BMI is the measure of body fat, based on a person's height and weight. Use the BMI Calculator to figure out your current BMI. Then, reference the BMI Chart on this page to better understand your health classification and potential health risk.

The BMI Chart below will help you to better understand your health classification. If your BMI falls in either the 'Obese' or 'Extremely Obese' categories, your eligibility for surgery is typically greater than someone who falls in the 'Overweight' category.
