After Surgery

The hard part is over. Now it’s time to rest and recover. Following surgery, you will be cared for and monitored in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), also known as the recovery room, until you are fully awake from the anesthesia. Our nurses will work with you to control your pain and any other potential side effects from the medications used in surgery.

It may take a few hours to fully wake. During this time, we limit the number of visitors and time to ensure the safety, confidentially and reduce risk of infection to all patients. Don't worry … our PACU nurses will keep your loved ones updated about how you are progressing. The amount of time spent in the PACU depends on how quickly you wake up. When you are fully awake, you will be moved to the discharge area if you are going home, or to your room if you are being admitted.

Same-day Surgery

Once your procedure is completed and you’re ready to go home, we will contact whomever you have designated and ask them to drive up to the West Wing or Patient Registration to pick you up. A member of our team will escort you to the car. Discharge instructions will be provided to you over the phone after discharge.

Staying Overnight

Once your procedure is completed and we have you settled in your room, you will be allowed visitors per the current hospital visitor policy
