Dr. Ruben Varghese joined the Saint Agnes Medical Center: Sports Medicine Fellowship Program in July 2024 after completing a Family Medicine Residency at Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Stockton, CA. Ruben was born in Culver City, CA, and raised in Harbor City, CA, where he grew up playing many sports such as basketball, and track and field.
He holds a medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers. He has dedicated himself to supporting the underserved and underrepresented communities and intends to make this a priority during his Sports Medicine journey. He also hopes to support students pursuing careers in medicine and be an advocate for those that are not "heard" or misrepresented.
Throughout his training, he provided team coverage for the University of the Pacific (UOP), provided care during mass participation sporting events, volunteered to give free physical exams to high school athletes, and even piloted a new sports medicine interest/elective for his residency program. His research interests include mental health, health care disparities, management of chronic health conditions, injury prevention, and nutrition. When not on the sidelines or in clinic, he enjoys traveling, trying new food, watching sports, lifting weights, playing basketball or pickleball, and mainly spending time with his family and loved ones.
