Continuity Clinic

The Ambulatory Continuity Clinic is a mandatory core rotation designed to impart competencies in outpatient medicine.

Endocrinology

This mandatory core rotation occurs in an outpatient setting, with an added inpatient consultation service element. Residents develop proficiency in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating endocrine conditions.

Cardiology

The Cardiology rotation is mandatory for all residents, encompassing both outpatient and inpatient components. Participants enhance their ability to interpret electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and stress tests. They also observe procedures at the Cardiac Diagnostic Lab and Cardiac Catheterization Suites.

Emergency Medicine

The Emergency Medicine rotation is an essential core rotation at the Emergency Department of Saint Agnes Medical Center. Full-time emergency medicine faculty provide direct supervision. Residents encounter diverse medical-surgical challenges across different age groups in the ER

General Medicine Wards (Floors)

Mandatory core rotations taking place at SAMC, the Internal Medicine Wards, involve four teams led by a full-time Internal Medicine faculty member, senior house officers, interns, and medical students. This hands-on experience offers exposure to various cases, allowing residents to manage diverse medical conditions while maintaining a balance between autonomy and supervision.

Gastroenterology

The Gastroenterology rotation occurs in both inpatient care units and outpatient clinics. A full-time Gastroenterology faculty oversees this rotation, where residents gain proficiency in diagnosing and managing common Gastroenterology disorders.

Geriatrics, Hospice, and Palliative

A core rotation primarily situated in the inpatient setting at SAMC, the Geriatrics and Palliative rotation equips residents with skills in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating geriatric patients. Exposure to managing elderly patients with chronic conditions, Palliative Medicine, and end-of-life care is provided.

Hematology/Oncology

This mandatory rotation combines office-based outpatient experience with an inpatient consult service component. Residents develop expertise in evaluating, diagnosing, staging, and prognosticating hematological and oncological diseases.

Infectious Disease

Mandatory for all residents, this rotation occurs in SAMC's inpatient care units and includes visits to the Infectious Disease outpatient clinic. A faculty member specializing in Infectious Diseases supervises this rotation, primarily focusing on inpatient consultations.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Taking place in SAMC's ICU unit, this core rotation is closely supervised by a full-time critical care faculty member. Residents acquire competence in caring for critically ill patients, including invasive procedures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, mechanical ventilation, and hemodynamic stabilization.

Nephrology

The Nephrology rotation transpires in inpatient care units and is supervised by full-time nephrology faculty. It offers valuable experience managing patients with renal disorders through inpatient consultations.

Neurology

Mandatory for all residents, the Neurology rotation unfolds in the inpatient care units at SAMC. Full-time Neurology faculty oversee this rotation, providing experience managing patients with neurological disorders through inpatient consultations.

Night Float

Set in SAMC's inpatient care units, the Night Float rotation involves work under the supervision of a senior resident and the guidance of an on-call faculty member. Residents handle cross-covering and admitting new patients during overnight hours. This rotation hones skills like efficient admissions, triage, consult calls, and communication while also focusing on recognizing limitations and ensuring optimal patient care.

Pulmonary

The Pulmonary rotation encompasses both an outpatient clinic and an inpatient consultation component. Supervised by a full-time Pulmonary faculty, residents gain proficiency in diagnosing and managing pulmonary conditions, interpreting diagnostic images, and exposure to bronchoscopy and chronic disease management.

Rheumatology

Primarily conducted in the office-based outpatient setting, the Rheumatology rotation equips residents with skills in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating rheumatologic diseases.

Pain Management and Addiction Medicine

Mandatory for all residents, the Pain Management and Addiction Medicine rotation unfolds in an outpatient Rehab Center. It involves providing the residents with comprehensive exposure and experience in evaluating, diagnosing, and managing patients with chronic pain conditions and substance use disorders. This rotation aims to equip residents with the knowledge and skills required to address these complex and often overlapping medical issues.

Individualized Education Experiences (IEEs)

Our residents will get at least six months of individualized educational experiences (IEEs) to participate in opportunities relevant to their future practice or to further skill/competency development in the foundational areas. These rotations could be in any of the above subspecialties and are subject to availability.
